Biology and Physical Science Teacher
I started my teaching career as a long-term substitute teacher for sixth grade earth science. In 2010, I was hired in Hesperia Unified School District to be a science teacher at Canyon Ridge High School. I have been at CRHS since then.
In college, I studied Environmental Science and then later changed my major to Nursing. I took time off from college to focus on my family, but when I returned, I changed my focus to becoming a teacher. My science background allowed me qualify for teaching in the Biological and Physical Sciences.
I enjoy teaching at Canyon Ridge because I enjoy being able to help students who haven't been successful in school in the past. Most students are excited to be in my science classes because they enjoy learning about the world around them, and their own body systems. I try to use multiple varieties of teaching methods so that students of different modalitites will be successful in my classroom. I focus on teaching using visual aids, videos, graphic organizers, and technology whenever it is helpful to aid in student understanding.
On a personal note, I have been married to my high school sweetheart for 19 years. We live in the High Desert with our three children and two cats. Our kids are involved in many sporting activities, and as a family we enjoy bike riding, visiting theme parks, playing games, watching movies, and spending time doing things together.
In my spare time I enjoy running, working in my garden and baking. I love visiting new places, especially beaches and mountains.
